Comet Might Strike Mars

In the midst of tracking two comets that will come close to earth in 2014, scientists have discovered a new comet whose trajectory could put it in line to smash into Mars.

The comet, C/2013 A1, is believed to have originated from the Oort Cloud, a region hypothesized from by scientists to be around our solar system containing the nuclei necessary to create comets. The trajectory of the C/2013 A1 is expected to bring it into Mars’ orbit on October 19, 2014. Continue reading

Nigerian Military Kills 20 Terrorists

Nigerian troops have killed 20 members of the Islamic terror group, Boko Haram, according to an army spokesman.

The terrorists had attempted to take over a military barracks in Monguno, in the extreme northern part of the country. In addition to killing 20 of the terrorists, the troops were able to capture weapons and ammunition from the assault force. No military members were apparently wounded in the assault. Michigan Governor May Declare Detroit In “Fiscal Emergency”

Detroit, the 18th largest city in the United States, is on the verge of being declared in a “fiscal emergency” by Michigan governor Rick Snyder.

Detroit Mayor Dave Bing said it seemed likely after talks with Snyder that the governor would declare the emergency and appoint an emergency manager for the city. The city is facing a $327 million budget deficit. Continue reading
